* | howto/setup-git-server-over-http: fix unescaped '^'sRamsay Jones2013-10-141-2/+2
|/ | | | | | | | | | | The text contains two 'grep' invocations which include the 'start of line' regular expression character '^'. Asciidoc mis-interprets this use of '^' as a superscript request. In order to fix this formatting problem, use backticks (`) to quote the text of the affected 'grep' command invocations. * Documentation: the name of the system is 'Git', not 'git'Thomas Ackermann2013-02-011-7/+7

* Documentation: avoid poor-man's small caps GITThomas Ackermann2013-02-011-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | In the earlier days, we used to spell the name of the system as GIT, to simulate as if it were typeset with capital G and IT in small caps. Later we stopped doing so at around 1.6.5 days. Let's stop doing so throughout the documentation. The name to refer to the whole system (and the concept it embodies) is "Git"; the command end-users type is "git". And document this in the coding guideline. * Document that WebDAV doesn't need git on the server, and works over SSLMatthieu Moy2008-04-181-12/+33
| | | | | | | | | | | I managed to set up a Git repository on a preconfigured WebDAV server, and using HTTPS, without installing Git on it or changing the server configuration. This works through a proxy too. This patch reflects this (it previously stated that Git was _necessary_ on the server, which isn't true). Also give a few hints to troubleshoting. * use 'init' instead of 'init-db' for shipped docs and toolsNicolas Pitre2007-01-121-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | While 'init-db' still is and probably will always remain a valid git command for obvious backward compatibility reasons, it would be a good idea to move shipped tools and docs to using 'init' instead.
