Remove or downgrade unnecessary dVAR.
You need to configure with g++ *and* -Accflags=-DPERL_GLOBAL_STRUCT
or -Accflags=-DPERL_GLOBAL_STRUCT_PRIVATE to see any difference.
(g++ does not do the "post-annotation" form of "unused".)
The version code has some of these issues, reported upstream.
