* upstream: Remove unused compat.h includes.dtucker@openbsd.org2023-03-051-2/+1
| | | | | | | | We've previously removed a lot of the really old compatibility code, and with it went the need to include compat.h in most of the files that have it. OpenBSD-Commit-ID: 5af8baa194be00a3092d17598e88a5b29f7ea2b4

* upstream: begin big refactor of sshkeydjm@openbsd.org2022-10-281-1/+57
| | | | | | | | | | | Move keytype data and some of the type-specific code (allocation, cleanup, etc) out into each key type's implementation. Subsequent commits will move more, with the goal of having each key-*.c file owning as much of its keytype's implementation as possible. lots of feedback + ok markus@ OpenBSD-Commit-ID: 0f2b4334f73914344e9e5b3d33522d41762a57ec
* upstream: change explicit_bzero();free() to freezero()jsg@openbsd.org2020-02-281-5/+3
| | | | | | | | | | While freezero() returns early if the pointer is NULL the tests for NULL in callers are left to avoid warnings about passing an uninitialised size argument across a function boundry. ok deraadt@ djm@ OpenBSD-Commit-ID: 2660fa334fcc7cd05ec74dd99cb036f9ade6384a

| | | | | | | | | | | | Remove all guards for calls to OpenSSL free functions - all of these functions handle NULL, from at least OpenSSL 1.0.1g onwards. Prompted by dtucker@ asking about guards for RSA_free(), when looking at openssh-portable pr#84 on github. ok deraadt@ dtucker@ OpenBSD-Commit-ID: 954f1c51b94297d0ae1f749271e184141e0cadae
* upstream commitdjm@openbsd.org2018-01-231-51/+30
| | | | | | | | | | | | | Drop compatibility hacks for some ancient SSH implementations, including ssh.com <=2.* and OpenSSH <= 3.*. These versions were all released in or before 2001 and predate the final SSH RFCs. The hacks in question aren't necessary for RFC- compliant SSH implementations. ok markus@ OpenBSD-Commit-ID: 4be81c67db57647f907f4e881fb9341448606138

* support --without-openssl at configure timeDamien Miller2015-01-151-0/+3
| | | | | | | | Disables and removes dependency on OpenSSL. Many features don't work and the set of crypto options is greatly restricted. This will only work on system with native arc4random or /dev/urandom. Considered highly experimental for now.

Use the new API in a few sensitive places. * actually, we allow a single one at the end of the string for now because we don't know how many deployed implementations get this wrong, but don't count on this to remain indefinitely.

OpenSSH certificate key types are not X.509 certificates, but a much simpler format that encodes a public key, identity information and some validity constraints and signs it with a CA key. CA keys are regular SSH keys. This certificate style avoids the attack surface of X.509 certificates and is very easy to deploy. Certified host keys allow automatic acceptance of new host keys when a CA certificate is marked as sh/known_hosts. see VERIFYING HOST KEYS in ssh(1) for details. Certified user keys allow authentication of users when the signing CA key is marked as trusted in authorized_keys. See "AUTHORIZED_KEYS FILE FORMAT" in sshd(8) for details. Certificates are minted using ssh-keygen(1), documentation is in the "CERTIFICATES" section of that manpage. Documentation on the format of certificates is in the file PROTOCOL.certkeys feedback and ok markus@
