Added type ``ColumnExpressionArgument`` as a public alias of an internal
type. This type is useful since it's what' accepted by the sqlalchemy in
many api calls, such as :meth:`_sql.Select.where`, :meth:`_sql.and` and
many other.

Added a new type :class:`.SQLColumnExpression` which may be indicated in
user code to represent any SQL column oriented expression, including both
those based on :class:`.ColumnElement` as well as on ORM
:class:`.QueryableAttribute`. This type is a real class, not an alias, so
can also be used as the foundation for other objects.

it seems mypy has become very pedantic about the difference
between importing from a module vs. accessing members of that
module as instance variables, so adjust the preloaded
typing block to be explicitly instance variables, since that's
how the accessor works in any case.

after some experimentation it seems mypy is more amenable
to the generic types being fully integrated rather than
having separate spin-off types. so key structures
like Result, Row, Select become generic. For DML
Insert, Update, Delete, these are spun into type-specific
subclasses ReturningInsert, ReturningUpdate, ReturningDelete,
which is fine since the "row-ness" of these constructs
doesn't happen until returning() is called in any case.
a Tuple based model is then integrated so that these
objects can carry along information about their return
types. Overloads at the .execute() level carry through
the Tuple from the invoked object to the result.
To suit the issue of AliasedClass generating attributes
that are dynamic, experimented with a custom subclass
AsAliased, but then just settled on having aliased()
lie to the type checker and return `Type[_O]`, essentially.
will need some type-related accessors for with_polymorphic()
also.
Additionally, identified an issue in Update when used
"mysql style" against a join(), it basically doesn't work
if asked to UPDATE two tables on the same column name.
added an error message to the specific condition where
it happens with a very non-specific error message that we
hit a thing we can't do right now, suggest multi-table
update as a possible cause.

implement strict typing for schema.py
this module has lots of public API, lots of old decisions
and very hard to follow construction sequences in many
cases, and is also where we get a lot of new feature requests,
so strict typing should help keep things clean.
among improvements here, fixed the pool .info getters
and also figured out how to get ColumnCollection and
related to be covariant so that we may set them up
as returning Column or ColumnClause without any conflicts.
DDL was affected, noting that superclasses of DDLElement
(_DDLCompiles, added recently) can now be passed into
"ddl_if" callables; reorganized ddl into ExecutableDDLElement
as a new name for DDLElement and _DDLCompiles renamed to
BaseDDLElement.
setting up strict also located an API use case that
is completely broken, which is connection.execute(some_default)
returns a scalar value. This case has been deprecated
and new paths have been set up so that connection.scalar()
may be used. This likely wasn't possible in previous
versions because scalar() would assume a CursorResult.
The scalar() change also impacts Session as we have explicit
support (since someone had reported it as a regression)
for session.execute(Sequence()) to work. They will get the
same deprecation message (which omits the word "Connection",
just uses ".execute()" and ".scalar()") and they can then
use Session.scalar() as well. Getting this to type
correctly while still supporting ORM use cases required
some refactoring, and I also set up a keyword only delimeter
for Session.execute() and related as execution_options /
bind_arguments should always be keyword only, applied these
changes to AsyncSession as well.
Additionally simpify Table __init__ now that we are Python
3 only, we can have positional plus explicit kwargs finally.
Simplify Column.__init__ as well again taking advantage
of kw only arguments.
Fill in most/all __init__ methods in sqltypes.py as
the constructor for types is most of the API. should
likely do this for dialect-specific types as well.
Apply _InfoType for all info attributes as should have been
done originally and update descriptor decorators.

start applying foundational annotations to key
elements.
two main elements addressed here:
1. removal of public_factory() and replacement with
explicit functions. this just works much better with
typing.
2. typing support for column expressions and operators.
The biggest part of this involves stubbing out all the
ColumnOperators methods under ColumnElement in a
TYPE_CHECKING section. Took me a while to see this
method vs. much more complicated things I thought
I needed.
Also for this version implementing #7519, ColumnElement
types against the Python type and not TypeEngine. it is
hoped this leads to easier transferrence between ORM/Core
as well as eventual support for result set typing.
Not clear yet how well this approach will work and what
new issues it may introduce.
given the current approach we now get full, rich typing for
scenarios like this:

Replace :meth:`_orm.Query.with_labels` and
:meth:`_sql.GenerativeSelect.apply_labels` with explicit getters and
setters ``get_label_style`` and ``set_label_style`` to accommodate the
three supported label styles: ``LABEL_STYLE_DISAMBIGUATE_ONLY`` (default),
``LABEL_STYLE_TABLENAME_PLUS_COL``, and ``LABEL_STYLE_NONE``.
In addition, for Core and "future style" ORM queries,
``LABEL_STYLE_DISAMBIGUATE_ONLY`` is now the default label style. This
style differs from the existing "no labels" style in that labeling is
applied in the case of column name conflicts; with ``LABEL_STYLE_NONE``, a
duplicate column name is not accessible via name in any case.
For legacy ORM queries using :class:`_query.Query`, the table-plus-column
names labeling style applied by ``LABEL_STYLE_TABLENAME_PLUS_COL``
continues to be used so that existing test suites and logging facilities
see no change in behavior by default, however this style of labeling is no
longer required for SQLAlchemy queries to function, as result sets are
commonly matched to columns using a positional approach since SQLAlchemy
1.0.
Within test suites, all use of apply_labels() / use_labels
now uses the new methods. New tests added to
test/sql/test_deprecations.py nad test/orm/test_deprecations.py
to cover just the old apply_labels() method call. Tests
in ORM that made explicit use apply_labels()/ etc. where it isn't needed
for the ORM to work correctly use default label style now.

We can now create asyncio endpoints that are then handled
in "implicit IO" form within the majority of the Core internals.
Then coroutines are re-exposed at the point at which we call
into asyncpg methods.

* some work with pep-484 and a short plugin for the
pyannotate package, which seems to have so-so results

The coercions system allows us to add in lambdas as arguments
to Core and ORM elements without changing them at all. By allowing
the lambda to produce a deterministic cache key where we can also
cheat and yank out literal parameters means we can move towards
having 90% of "baked" functionality in a clearer way right in
Core / ORM.
As a second step, we can have whole statements inside the lambda,
and can then add generation with __add__(), so then we have
100% of "baked" functionality with full support of ad-hoc
literal values.
Adds some more short_selects tests for the moment for comparison.
Other tweaks inside cache key generation as we're trying to
approach a certain level of performance such that we can
remove the use of "baked" from the loader strategies.
As we have not yet closed #4639, however the caching feature
has been fully integrated as of
b0cfa7379cf8513a821a3dbe3028c4965d9f85bd, we will also
add complete caching documentation here and close that issue
as well.

A variety of caching issues found by running
all tests with statement caching turned on.
The cache system now has a more conservative approach where
any subclass of a SQL element will by default invalidate
the cache key unless it adds the flag inherit_cache=True
at the class level, or if it implements its own caching.
Add working caching to a few elements that were
omitted previously; fix some caching implementations
to suit lesser used edge cases such as json casts
and array slices.
Refine the way BaseCursorResult and CursorMetaData
interact with caching; to suit cases like Alembic
modifying table structures, don't cache the
cursor metadata if it were created against a
cursor.description using non-positional matching,
e.g. "select *". if a table re-ordered its columns
or added/removed, now that data is obsolete.
Additionally we have to adapt the cursor metadata
_keymap regardless of if we just processed
cursor.description, because if we ran against
a cached SQLCompiler we won't have the right
columns in _keymap.
Other refinements to how and when we do this
adaption as some weird cases
were exposed in the Postgresql dialect,
a text() construct that names just one column that
is not actually in the statement. Fixed that
also as it looks like a cut-and-paste artifact
that doesn't actually affect anything.
Various issues with re-use of compiled result maps
and cursor metadata in conjunction with tables being
changed, such as change in order of columns.
mappers can be cleared but the class remains, meaning
a mapper has to use itself as the cache key not the class.
lots of bound parameter / literal issues, due to Alembic
creating a straight subclass of bindparam that renders
inline directly. While we can update Alembic to not
do this, we have to assume other people might be doing
this, so bindparam() implements the inherit_cache=True
logic as well that was a bit involved.
turn on cache stats in logging.
Includes a fix to subqueryloader which moves all setup to
the create_row_processor() phase and elminates any storage
within the compiled context. This includes some changes
to create_row_processor() signature and a revising of the
technique used to determine if the loader can participate
in polymorphic queries, which is also applied to
selectinloading.
DML update.values() and ordered_values() now coerces the
keys as we have tests that pass an arbitrary class here
which only includes __clause_element__(), so the
key can't be cached unless it is coerced. this in turn
changed how composite attributes support bulk update
to use the standard approach of ClauseElement with
annotations that are parsed in the ORM context.
memory profiling successfully caught that the Session
from Query was getting passed into _statement_20()
so that was a big win for that test suite.
Apparently Compiler had .execute() and .scalar() methods
stuck on it, these date back to version 0.4 and there
was a single test in the PostgreSQL dialect tests
that exercised it for no apparent reason. Removed
these methods as well as the concept of a Compiler
holding onto a "bind".

Introduced a modules registry to register modules that should be lazily loaded
in the package init. This ensures that they are in the system module cache,
avoiding potential thread safety issues as when importing them directly
in the function that uses them. The module registry is used to obtain
these modules directly, ensuring that the all the lazily loaded modules
are resolved at the proper time
This replaces dependency_for decorator and the dependencies decorator logic,
removing the need to pass the resolved modules as arguments of the
decodated functions and removes possible errors caused by linters.

Added "from linting" as a built-in feature to the SQL compiler. This
allows the compiler to maintain graph of all the FROM clauses in a
particular SELECT statement, linked by criteria in either the WHERE
or in JOIN clauses that link these FROM clauses together. If any two
FROM clauses have no path between them, a warning is emitted that the
query may be producing a cartesian product. As the Core expression
language as well as the ORM are built on an "implicit FROMs" model where
a particular FROM clause is automatically added if any part of the query
refers to it, it is easy for this to happen inadvertently and it is
hoped that the new feature helps with this issue.

The linter is now enabled for all tests in the test suite as well.
This has necessitated that a lot of the queries be adjusted to
not include cartesian products. Part of the rationale for the
linter to not be enabled for statement compilation only was to reduce
the need for adjustment for the many test case statements throughout
the test suite that are not real-world statements.

engine due to the DDLEvents dependency. Break out pool,
DDL and engine events into new modules specific to those
packages; resolve some other import cycles in Core also.

As part of the SQLAlchemy 2.0 migration project, a conceptual change has
been made to the role of the :class:`.SelectBase` class hierarchy,
which is the root of all "SELECT" statement constructs, in that they no
longer serve directly as FROM clauses, that is, they no longer subclass
:class:`.FromClause`. For end users, the change mostly means that any
placement of a :func:`.select` construct in the FROM clause of another
:func:`.select` requires first that it be wrapped in a subquery first,
which historically is through the use of the :meth:`.SelectBase.alias`
method, and is now also available through the use of
:meth:`.SelectBase.subquery`. This was usually a requirement in any
case since several databases don't accept unnamed SELECT subqueries
in their FROM clause in any case.

A major refactoring of all the functions handle all detection of
Core argument types as well as perform coercions into a new class hierarchy
based on "roles", each of which identify a syntactical location within a
SQL statement. In contrast to the ClauseElement hierarchy that identifies
"what" each object is syntactically, the SQLRole hierarchy identifies
the "where does it go" of each object syntactically. From this we define
a consistent type checking and coercion system that establishes well
defined behviors.
This is a breakout of the patch that is reorganizing select()
constructs to no longer be in the FromClause hierarchy.
Also includes a rename of as_scalar() into scalar_subquery(); deprecates
automatic coercion to scalar_subquery().

The :class:`.Alias` class and related subclasses :class:`.CTE`,
:class:`.Lateral` and :class:`.TableSample` have been reworked so that it is
not possible for a user to construct the objects directly. These constructs
require that the standalone construction function or selectable-bound method
be used to instantiate new objects.

This is a straight reformat run using black as is, with no edits
applied at all.
The black run will format code consistently, however in
some cases that are prevalent in SQLAlchemy code it produces
too-long lines. The too-long lines will be resolved in the
following commit that will resolve all remaining flake8 issues
including shadowed builtins, long lines, import order, unused
imports, duplicate imports, and docstring issues.

The SQL Server dialect now allows for a database and/or owner name
with a dot inside of it, using brackets explicitly in the string around
the owner and optionally the database name as well. In addition,
sending the :class:`.quoted_name` construct for the schema name will
not split on the dot and will deliver the full string as the "owner".
:class:`.quoted_name` is also now available from the ``sqlalchemy.sql``
import space.

The TABLESAMPLE clause allows randomly selecting an approximate percentage
of rows from a table. At least DB2, Microsoft SQL Server and recent

datatypes. a string is now returned in these cases rendering an
approximation of the construct (typically the postgresql-style
